-she was halfway home -thankful but still apprehensive driving in the dark. -the event was further and later than she thought -but it was a way to makeup for all the other invites that she kept pushing off. -at least now she could buy some times until the next one. -she heard her phone ring and instantly her heart thumped with its next beat. -part of her needed the company but also she didn’t want a lecture. ‘hey baby’, she picked up and listened to him breathing. ‘hey baby’, he recited back restrained. -he could hear the apology in her voice already -and also could hear a little fear, not of him but of being out in the dark. -so as calmly as he could he asked, ‘now what did we say about you driving home dark by yourself?’ -she held in her sigh -and instead of replaying what they’d discussed about his protective concern about her safety, she just said a light, ‘i’m sorry’ -if wasn’t manipulative -and it wasn’t dismissive. -she just wanted to move past any extra words for this moment. -he now held in his own sigh. -he always melted when she softened under him -and it was hard for him to keep any disappointments when she did. -so he just said, ‘aww baby. -it’s okay. -imma just stay on the phone with you.’ -he started to turn on the utube channel he knew she was most likely listening to -and it on in the background while he stayed quiet and watched her tracker.
